I will report what happens. I may try as you suggested. I know that I do not want the version. If I have to, I would rather buy another version of either or for this new computer. If it says you have “too many installs” the problem is that the activation system does not recognize you have uninstalled from the old machine.

When you uninstall from a computer, there is no notification sent to the MS activation system. So they sometimes let it slip, but eventually say you have “too many installs”.

At that time you have to make personal contact with MS. You will have to talk to someone at MS, but not at the normal support phone contacts. When you phone in, do NOT reply to the initial prompt for a “Product ID” if you do, you will just get the same error message.

WAIT, a long time, until you are offered the option of talking to a live “service” rep. Explain that you have uninstalled from the old computer and are transferring the license to a new computer. They should then allow the activation to complete. If they still say no, ask to speak to a supervisor. As long as you know for sure that you are following the install limits for your license, no more than 2 computers, then they cannot say you have installed “too many times”.

There is no limit in the license terms on the number of times you re-install or transfer to new computers. There is a 90 day minimum between transfers to new computers, but you have not said anything that indicates that limit applies.
