I recently had an issue with Windows 10 outlook. For some reason outlook stopped syncing with Yahoo so deleted the account in outlook and tried to re-add it and it refused to add. Everything works fine with my mobile version of outlook so I’m wondering what is wrong with the Windows 10 version? This is a different password than your regular email account password.
One way you’ll know you need an app password is if you see the following message: 2-factor authentication is set up for your account. Go to the Yahoo website from your browser and select the settings icon in the upper right corner of the screen. If Two-step verification isn’t turned on, you’ll need to do that before you continue.
Then select Manage app passwords. Yahoo will display an app password for you. Copy this password without the spaces and enter this password when Outlook prompts you for a password. Once you’ve copied this app password, you can add your Yahoo!
Open Outlook and go to the “File” tab. Now click on “Account Settings”. Click on the “Additional Settings” button and then switch to the “Advanced” tab. In this case, the problem will resolve itself within a few hours or days. I have deleted the information in outlook now im trying to re enter the information and it wont take it. You need to login to yahoo account first, go into account security and under “manage app password” i used other app setting and called it “outlook ” and generate a password. Go back to outlook and login using this generated password instead of your usual yahoo password all as automatic settings don’t configure it manually.
For your reference: Can’t add an Yahoo! Douglas, did you resolve this issue? I am currently having the same issue. No new email showing up in 24 hours. I wonder if that’s the problem? Of course, I have NOT changed a single thing on my desktop. I am having the same problem since Wednesday, 17 Feb. I tried both fixes and I keep getting the same error “Something went wrong and Outlook couldn’t save your account settings. Please try again.
I was able to have Geeksqade fix the issue it’s now running great. Not sure what causes it. I think they might have use pop instead not sure. I got it fix, by enabling two factor authentication and following the instructions Nerissa posted above.
Then I kept tweaking my settings till it worked. It worked after I changed my username from email to just username. Not sure if I needed to do the rest, but it was all part of the process.
I’m happy to hear you were able to fix the problem. I was so upset when this happened because I could still use my outlook on my cellphone. Did not really understand why the issue only affected the windows outlook. I’m just glad we resolved the problem hope we have no more issues. That was my frustration as well. My phone received all my Yahoo email. After many frustrating attempts, was able to get the”App password” and then everything worked fine.

If you need to enter specific values for incoming and outgoing server names, port numbers, or SSL settings, you can use Outlook’s advanced setup option. On the next screen, enter your email address, select Advanced options , then check the box for Let me set up my account manually and select Connect.
